Toastmasters Mobile App
Role: UX, UI Designer, Researcher
Client: Toastmasters International
Timeline: 12 weeks
Users: 364,000
Introduction:
Toastmasters Clubs promote public speaking, communication and leadership. They rely on “word of mouth” to acquire new members. While members find Toastmasters Club helping them achieve their goals, they find the current user flow inefficient, and tasks difficult to complete.
Problem
New users find it difficult to join a club using a website. Additionally, members have to rely on multiple resources (the main website, Pathways website, Slack, Zoom, and email) to participate in the weekly meetings. The customer experience is time-consuming and leads to low participation and a high dropout rate.
Solution
Toastmasters International mobile application will enable users to easily create an account and onboard. The app will feature a the build-in messaging feature, meeting information and video conference linking, recordings of past speeches with peers’ feedback, and resources relevant to the curriculum.
Research
I interviewed three current members . Two of them were native speakers and one non-native. Interviewees were 30-40 years of age. All participants were working full time and relying on communication to perform job duties. Talking to them gave me insight on what features in the app could help them save time and effort to improve the participation rate and value.
